Snow Much Fun!

The girls at For the Love of Blogs have made a terrific place to play...hang out...check out some new blogs to read...and make new friends! The blog hops that they host are so inspiring that I have begun cooking again, crafting again, AND taking pictures again! Those are all things that I love, but had somewhat left behind...until now! Today's blog hop is all about moments that make us joyful. I couldn't choose just one photo for my most recent joyful moment, so I decided to edit last night's post and use it. Click the button to the left and link up!

What is it about snow that brings out the child in even the most unplayful of people (me)?  I love the stuff, even when it means extra days of school in June. Granted, I curse it when June rolls 'round and I am still in the classroom, but I so love it when it is here! We don't see much good snow here, perhaps once every 20 years or so. I have only seen over a foot at a time twice in my 32 years. Typically, we get one or two inches a couple of times a year, and it isn't the stuff you can do anything with. My kids have only made maybe three snowmen in their entire lives. So imagine the mad rush to the grocery store and the nervous anticipation when the forecasters began calling for 10+ inches across the state this week. As you know, we have already had three or four minor bouts of the stuff this year, so...I felt a mix of childish anticipation and adult-ish dread at the same time...and yet, I continued to run to the window to see if it had started yet. Basically the entire state shut down on Tuesday night in expectation of the 'snowpocalypse', and on Wednesday morning we awoke to...nada. Nothing. Not a trace or speck. However, school was cancelled, so I went back to bed...and awoke again to find....

The most we measured was 8.5 inches around 4 o'clock in the afternoon, but it still snowed about another hour, so we may have hit ten inches as a total. Sometime during the morning the mail lady made it up and around our cul-de-sac, but alas, the garbage truck did not...

The tracks from the mail truck around the loop.

The garbage truck, stranded halfway up our cul-de-sac drive. It stayed a full 24 hours.

So the hubs and I had to go check things out and play a bit before the kiddos came home and tore it all up!

And today, my babies came home...and we had to get in the snow ASAP! It was such fun; it made me wish they could have big snow every winter!

These last few are some of my favorites...

  1. As cold and inconvenient as snow can be sometimes, it sure does make for beautiful pictures!

I saw that you like to read--my favorite book is Gone With the Wind too! Have you read the sequel, Scarlet (if you can call it a sequel since it was written by someone else) or The Wind Done Gone?

    Have a great weekend!

  2. Thanks for visiting my blog! I enjoy snow as long as I don't have to deal with it:) When I was a teacher I could never make up my mind about snow days...I loved having a random day off but hated having to go longer in the summer! Hopefully you guys won't have too many more.

  3. KT...I did read Scarlet years ago, and was not as impressed as I was with Gone With the Wind. I have been meaning to go back and try it again now that I am older!

Poekitten...I think that we are done...I hope so anyway! I do love it when it's falling, and for about a day after...then I am done! :-)

  4. Oh, and I have actually never heard of The Wind Done Gone, but I will definitely be looking in to it!

  5. I am so glad you will be joining us for the BBC. I have added your link to the list of members (under The Library page). Next week we will decide on a first book and get going!

I felt the writing in Scarlet was not as good but it was a more emotionally satisfying ending :)

  6. KT, I am with you on both counts about Scarlet. You nailed it.

I hope I can keep up with the BBC; I have always wanted to get involved with a book club, but never have time! Maybe this way will work out! Can't wait...
